We’ve decided that KOH PHAYAM, a little island on the northern border with Myanmar, is one of our favourite places so far. What’s not to like about a place with a really calm anchorage with super-easy dinghy access ashore, long stretches of beach, rare hornbill birds flying overhead morning and night, no cars or noisy tourist speedboats, and great little bars serving ice cold Chang beer and delicious Thai food right on the beach? And one of these bars is a ship made out of driftwood! How cool is that?!? We came for a quick look and stayed several days.
The “Hippy Ship”. A spectacular engineering feat!
It’s definitely worth the detour on the way to or from the Surin Islands (where we are headed right now).
